Cortona3D Extends Rapid Tools- Further Improving Documentation Quality and Producing Manuals and Parts Catalogs Faster

Posted by admin on August 4, 2010

Dublin, Ireland, 21 May, 2010 – Cortona3D, proven leader in 3D driven technical authoring software, announces the latest release of the Cortona3D Rapid tools range, version 5.0. With a variety of new features and improvements the Rapid family of tools enables companies to produce documentation quicker whilst delivering higher quality output, and all at lower cost.

Matthew Booth, VP sales, said “The range of enhancements included in version 5.0 all continue Cortona3D’s drive to improve and speed the production of end user materials for maintenance, installation, assembly, training and repair of complex equipment. The shortened workflow process we can already deliver, coupled with improved links to PLM/ PDM systems means engineering design changes can now be incorporated into documentation even faster.”

Providing users with increased control over their documentation environment the Rapid authoring tools are now enhanced by the extension of 3D CAD data import options, the ability to link and launch external editors, and improvements in communication and workflow with Content Management Systems.

For users moving from a traditional author plus illustrator structure for their technical publications delivery the transition to Cortona3D tools is now even easier – as they begin to produce text, 2D and 3D illustrations using the Rapid tools they will be able to link and launch – from within the tool itself – structured documents, most likely by using their existing editing tool. This will smooth their transition from 2D to 3D driven publication production and will allow them to migrate at their own pace to a totally 3D driven authoring process linked directly to engineering data.

Version 5.0 also sees the launch of a new flexible graphical user interface (GUI) for the Rapid tools. The new interface has the ability to undock, move or hide any of the primary and secondary work areas plus gives users complete control over the menu and tool bars. Using these new features users will be able to configure their authoring workspace to suit their working habits, data and methods.

Building on the launch in 2009 of the RapidDataImport tool – which offers users the ability to import certain native CAD formats into the Cortona3D Rapid tools – Version 5.0 sees the addition of support for an additional three CAD formats.
