Welcome to the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) glossary of VMH International.
BOM
BOM is the acronym for Bill of Materials. BOM is a list of the raw materials, sub-assemblies, intermediate assemblies, sub-components, components, parts and the quantities of each needed to manufacture a final product.

CAD
CAD is the acronym for Computer-Aided Design. CAD is the use of software solutions for authoring product design. CAD is part of the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and is used with other tools such as CAE (Computer-aided engineering) and FEA (Finite element analysis).
CAD related information: NX CAD
CAE
CAE is the acronym for Computer-Aided Engineering. CAE is the use of software solutions for simulating the physical behavior of a future product. CAE includes: * Stress analysis on components and assemblies using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) * Thermal and fluid flow analysis CFD (Computational fluid dynamics) * Kinematics * Analysis tools for process simulation for operations such as casting, molding, and die press forming * Optimization of the product or process.
CAE related information: NX CAE
CAM
CAM is the acronym for Computer-Aided Manufacturing. CAM is the use of software solutions for defining manufacturing operations. CAM is a programming tool that makes it possible to manufacture physical models using CAD (computer-aided design) programs. CAM is not only a NC (Numerical Control) programming tool. CAM functions have expanded to integrate CAM more fully with CAD/CAM/CAE PLM solutions.
CAM related information: NX CAM
PLM
PLM is the acronym for Product Lifecycle Management. PLM is a business strategy that helps companies share product data, apply common processes, and leverage corporate knowledge for the development of products from conception to retirement, across the extended enterprise.
S1000D
S1000D is an international specification for the procurement and production of technical publications. It is an SGML/XML standard for preparing, managing, and using equipment maintenance and operations information.
S1000D related information: RapidManual
SCORM
SCORM is the acronym for Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM). It is a collection of standards and specifications for web-based e-learning. It defines communications between client side content and a host system called the run-time environment, which is commonly supported by a learning management system.
